The cold war is back!  11/30/00 11:45 PM Eastern
  • Every once in a while a game comes along that makes your jaw drop. It's even more fun when the game comes out of nowhere, as is the case with Operation Flashpoint. The game takes place back during the cold war, and in a hypothetical battle situation. You control a squad of soldiers who can fly and drive in all types of vehicles, and all of this in a first person view. Forget Team Fortress 2, I want this game! The site has tons of great screenshots, and movies. At a minimum get these two movies, Classified, and UH-60. It is almost impossible to believe this is the same game with such a broad scope. The graphics are incredible too, especially the detailed terrain. Don't miss this incredible game!
  • Two new flight sims have shipped, X plane and Combat Squadron WWII. I have very little info on them, but you can check them out at EBworld.com .
  • You might have noticed that Conquest: Frontier Wars by Microsoft, and Star Wars: Obi Wan by LucasArts have disappeared from our release dates. Unfortunately both titles have been cancelled.
  • I have subscriptions to just about every computer game magazine. I got one of my recent game mags in the mail the other day, and it was the issue for January 2001. Now I understand about publishing delays and all that stuff but what makes me laugh is that the January issue is the Holidays Buyers guide. Is it just me or does that seem odd? In such a high tech world as we have now where you can get instant updated gaming news on the net why do we need gaming magazines dated in January helping us buy games for Christmas? So the question is will gaming sites like this replace the game magazines as a news source? Sure I will always read them, you can't exactly take your computer in the bathroom, or to the beach to read can you? Oh wait a minute I guess you can! Still despite game magazines being oddly dated there is still something enjoyable about getting and reading them. Anyway just food for though. Feel free to email me, or post on the Gamer's Forum your thoughts, or just to tell me how odd my thoughts are. ;)
  • I am still working on the Software Store. We hoped to be an affiliate for Compuexpert.com, and to be able to offer you games from numerous sources. However, they apparently didn't like us and turned our site down from being an affiliate without giving any reason (It's probably that proud to be an EBworld affiliate line at the top, what do ya think? Their jealous?). Well I immediately called and cancelled the order I had made. So who's laughing now!? *Sticks out his tongue at the very rich and not caring Compuexpert.com*
  • I know, I know! I said I would take down the election poll after the election and put up gaming polls. Is the election over? Will the poll ever come down? George Bush made a heck of a comeback on the poll catching up to Al Gore's early lead. Keep the poll until the real election is over, or scrap it for something more interesting? Post on the Gamer's Forum or email me with your thoughts, opinions, and ideas!
  • I would like to thank all the readers who keep requesting patches on our patch section. It is a great way to keep that section going strong. Thank you.

Wizards and Warriors review posted   11/26/00 10:45 PM Eastern
  • From all of us at ComputerGamers.com we hope you had a happy and safe Thanksgiving vacation! Things have gotten outdated recently and we're working hard to get them back on track. The release dates have been updated, and so has the all new software store.
  • Too many new releases since my last update to add. Just check the update on the release dates section to see a current list.
  • Don't miss Galen's latest review of Wizards and Warriors.

Sorry for my absence 11/18/00 2:25 AM Eastern
  • Thanks go out to Udo for keeping the patch section up to date in my absence! I hate typing on a notebook, so I will try to get things updated as soon as possible when I get a chance. Stay tuned for Galen's latest review of Wizards and Warriors.
  • I was able to get a hold of a copy of Half-Life: Counter Strike. It is one of the best first person shooters I have played. However like most multiplayer shooters it is still ruled by players with fast connections. I had a very hard time keeping up with a lot of the players. If you are lucky enough to have a cable modem, then I highly suggest this game.
  • Sorry for the lack of updates. My computer has died, and I am now on my wife's notebook temporarily. The funniest thing about my computer dying is that I got a virus from a Microsoft trial program CD! I guess you can't trust anything. What makes it even funnier is that they won't help me without charging me for tech support! Crazy! On a more personal level I'm also very busy job searching. I am excited to say that next week I have a job interview for a customer support position on one of the new massively multiplayer online role-playing games coming out. Wish me luck. :)

New voting booth added to our site

  11/08/00 6:15 PM Eastern

  • We had a slight problem with our top banner yesterday. So as a result I had to redo it. You may notice that the link to the preview section is disabled. It will stay that way and be replaced by the Gamer's Notebook section which we are actively working on.
  • I forgot to announce on the 2nd that
  • It only took me six months, but I finally got a voting script to work. I made the first vote about the US presidential election. I will take it down when the final decision is made in the real election. However, in the future all polls will be related to computer gaming. I hope you enjoy the polls.

New Gamer's Forum added to our site

11/02/00 10:15 PM Eastern

  • Since my last update Ford Racing, FIFA 2001, Devil Inside, 4x4 Evolution, Jetfighter IV, Sheep, Blair Witch Project  2:Legend of Coffin Rock, Rune, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 have all shipped.
  • Last week I was all excited about Squad Leader coming out! Do yourself a favor and DON'T buy it! I am a huge fan of squad based games, and World War II games. That's what this game is, and I wouldn't want my worst enemy to have to play it. It was so annoying, and it's the first game in a long time that I couldn't continue to play after a few hours. It is the successor of Soldiers of War from several years ago. I actually think the predecessor was better! Not to mention, the graphics, and game play are just about as old! I will try to get a review posted on it soon, but until then I just wanted to warn you!
  • Unfortunately, Counterstrike was pushed back another week to November 7th. Along with that Sea Dogs, and Call to Power II are shipping a week after that. Since I have all three on pre-order it's going to be a fun gaming month for me! If you have not checked out Sea Dogs, I highly recommend you read the Sea Dogs site. I had not planned on getting the game until I read their site. The game sounds like a lot of fun! It is a combination of role-playing, strategy, adventure, war, a simulation and more!
  • HELP! I have been turned into a console gamer! I am very sorry about the lack of updates this past week. After getting my new Playstation 2 last Thursday at 2 AM, I have been addicted ever since! Madden 2001 is about a million times better than the PC version. That is something that I have not seen before, and I was very surprised by. Especially due to the fact that it has franchise mode on the PS2. The only down side is that the game does not have a fantasy draft like the PC version does. I bought NHL 2001, and Kessen but ended up taking them back. I then made the mistake of picking up Swing Away Golf. Now I am addicted to two VERY fun sports games! I will try my best in the future to keep console games off the site, just wanted to let you know why there have been no updates. Also, some of you know that I have been a police officer for the last seven years. Well as of Monday I left the department on work related disability. So I am now unemployed, and finding a job is taking up a lot of my time too. I will also get the release dates section updated tonight, and all the patches updated that people have requested this past week.
  • Besides being unemployed, and addicted to my PlayStation 2 there is another reason I have not been updating lately. I must admit that I am disheartened by the readers of this site. I get very little feedback from anyone, even when asked. I have over 800 people on my ICQ list. I sent 100 messages to those who I thought were good friends. Yet only one person out of that whole group even bothered to register for the message board, and post a message. So it leaves me wondering, if my 'friends' won't even help support the site, it makes me wonder if it's worth continuing. Due to the lack of feedback, sometime I wonder if anyone is even reading the site. Are you? I get about 1500 hits per day on average. I get a bunch of patch requests, so I know at least part of the site is being used. So now that I will be looking for a new job, I am considering selling the site. The site is costing me a good deal of money per month, and I am not sure I can continue to maintain it with my current situation. Besides the great job some of the reviewers are doing, I am not getting any help with the site itself. So stay tuned, and hopefully I will be getting things back on track, and I will not have to close the site down. Also I am changing the site format to a more personal level as you might have noticed. It was suggested to me when I started that I not do that, but I now think that was bad advice. So from now on the news will be posted by a certain person, instead of not knowing who is posting it. For the most part that means it will just be me. So if you want to help out, or if you just want to give some feedback to prove that people read this then feel free to drop me a line. Jared's email!
  • Jason's latest review is on Beach Head 2000. Make sure you read the review first, if you plan on buying it!
  • I have added the Gamer's Forum to the left side banner. So far it has gone mostly unused. I would love to see people start posting to get it going as a popular message board! The current forum is a freeware version. I would like to eventually be able to purchase the full version which costs about $200, and is very popular among guilds, and gaming sites and has a lot more features. I need the forum to be used a LOT more before that can happen though. ;)

Star Trek Elite Force review posted

10/24/00 3:45 AM Eastern

  • Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, Squad Leader, and Starship Troopers all shipped yesterday. It's going to be a busy gaming week! Also, don't forget the Play Station 2 is due out Thursday. Hopefully you were lucky enough to have preordered it, if not the rumor is  no more will be available until January.
  • Our newest review of Star Trek Voyager: Elite force is posted. Read it here.
Starship Troopers just around the corner

10/20/00 9:30 PM Eastern

  • If you missed out on the original Half-Life, then you now have something to look forward to. Counterstrike is an add on modification for Half-Life that was so successful, that it is now being marketed. The ship date has been moved up to November 1st. If your waiting for Team Fortress II, Half-Life Counterstrike will definitely tide you over until then.
  • Both Sudden Strike, and B-17 Flying Fortress have been pushed way back! Unfortunately, I have pre-ordered both of them and now have to wait even longer. Check the dates on the release dates section.
  • Squad Leader has been pushed back a few more days to the 22nd unfortunately. Dirt Track Racing: Sprint Cars is now available.
  • Westwood Studios announced their new game, called Emperor: Battle for Dune. This game is a sequel to the very popular Dune series from long ago. The game is fully 3D and looks to be quite impressive from their new website.
  • Only three days left until Starship Troopers is shipped. I was one of the very few people who loved the movie. However, initial screenshots of the game had me thinking the game would not be that great. Well, after playing the demo I quickly changed my mind. As much as I liked it, the controls were a little odd. However, this is definitely on my shopping list for next week. Click here to get the demo.

 Baldur's Gate II rates gold!

10/15/00 4:30 AM Eastern

  • Combat Flight Simulator 2: WWII Pacific Theater was released on Thursday.
  • We have added over 20 new games to our updated Release Dates section. One of those games is Squad Leader which is expected to ship on Tuesday. Sorry we did not get it added early, but we have been trying to get more information about the game first. There is still no web site for it yet, which is not unusual for Micropose. Squad Leader is the Sequel to the game Soldiers at War, but looks a lot better! Unfortunately, this is not the game many players hoped for emulating the very popular Squad Leader board game.
  • You may notice some of the links on our site changing. We're now also affiliated with Chips & Bits software store. So we will be offering you game sales from both companies. Chip & Bits often has lower prices, and more selections for you the customer. They also have much higher commissions, and about a million times easier links for us to use. We hope you enjoy Chips & Bits, and as always your input is always welcome!
  • Baldur's Gate II is the latest winner of the ComputerGamers.com Gold Award. Check out our review of this hot new game.
 Rune has gone gold

10/11/00 5:30 AM Eastern

  • Although we normally prefer you to buy games through our links to EBworld.com so that we get credit, we will make an exception. If you order Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 directly from Electronic Arts, you will get the Prima strategy guide for free! This is too good of a deal to ignore, since the strategy guides often cost half the price of games. Click here.
  • The first episode of the Blair Witch series, and the Dukes of Hazzard have both shipped.
  • A lot of games are getting their release dates pushed back. Probably to optimize companies Christmas sales. Check our updated release dates section for details.
  • Rune, the new third person Viking game has gone gold, and is expected to ship on schedule at the end of the month.
 More demos on the way!

10/9/00 1:37 AM Eastern

  • We're working hard to find some good demos to add to our demo section.  You can expect some new demos and links to be added soon!  If there is a particular game demo you are looking for, or if you have found one that is totally awesome, then let us know!  We'll do our best to get it added here for you and all other gamers to enjoy!
 October's explosion of games!

10/5/00 9:00 PM Eastern

  • Panzer General 3: Scorched Earth , and Close Combat: Invasion of Normandy.have been released. Both of these sequels of award winning war games look to add quite a bit to the original games.
  • We will be bringing a new feature to the web site soon, called the Gamer's Notebook. The Gamer's Notebook will feature information of all kinds on individual games. Including reviews, previews, and other game specific information about games. Even game information from other gaming web sites.
  • October is bringing over 30 potential quality games! With the big Christmas shopping season approaching, game companies are shoving games out the door. Some of the more exciting games coming this month are: Swat 3: Elite Edition, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Starship Troopers, Sudden Strike, Delta Force Land Warrior, Rune, and many more!
