Motor
City online hits the web
12/21/00 12:45 AM Eastern |
- Timegate
studios has just announced a new real time strategy game
called Kohan.
This new game takes place in the medieval ages. The game brings
grouped fighting to a whole new level. When you group units they
form up into an organized 'Company' instead of the mobs that are
usually formed in real time strategy games. Check out the Kohan
site.
- Not sure how I forgot
this in the news Tuesday, but Quake
III: Team Arena has already shipped and is available in stores
now.
- Electronic Arts just
announced the debut of their web site for Need
for Speed: Motor City. Motor City will be unlike the previous
Need for Speed games. This version will be online, where you buy
and build cars, and race them against others online. No hot
European sports cars in this game! It's all about American classic
cars.

New
ComputerGamers.com Hardware store opened
12/19/00 2:30 PM Eastern |
- Our Hardware
Store has been updated and added to our site once again. We
will try and bring you great deals as often as possible. Don't
miss the free shipping deal in our Hardware
Store, or the new Pentium 4!
- Dave
Mirra Freestyle BMX, and I'm
Going In are now
available in stores.
- Electronic
Arts announced an add-on for their excellent strategy game Shogun:
Total War.
- Help
wanted! ComputerGamers.com is looking
for people to help work on the web site. It is a very good
opportunity for getting involved in the game industry. We need all
kinds of help with the site, but especially some one with FrontPage, or HTML experience. Sorry there is no salary involved,
but there is plenty of experienced to be earned. Contact me if you
want to become a part of our site.
- As if
were not having enough fun playing Sudden
Strike, news of an add-on brings even more excitement. There
will be a lot of new features including medics!
- Who
isn't calling Combat
Mission the best war game of all time? This game has gotten an
incredible amount of awards. One of my only complaints was the
graphics. Well if you play the game go to Combat
Mission HQ, and download the available mods for graphics,
equipment, and sound updates that add a lot to the game!

Last
minute Christmas gifts
12/14/00 4:45 AM Eastern |
- Most of the good games
for Christmas have now been released. Especially with Starfleet
Command
2, Freedom:
First Resistance,
and B-17
Flying Fortress shipping
yesterday. All three of these are potential hits. I'm
Going In (gone gold), Quake III: Team Arena, and Dave
Mirra's Freestyle BMX are all expected to ship today.
After that it looks pretty bleak until after the holidays.
- I reported on the site
that I was applying to work for a game company. Unfortunately they
chose not to hire me, although that makes my wife happy because
she didn't want to move. The company was Funcom, and the main game
is Anarchy
Online. I did get the opportunity to see the game up close,
and it was very impressive. I even spotted a secret about the game
which they asked me not to reveal. I will only say that it is an
exciting addition not seen before in a massive multiplayer online
game. Look forward to this game coming early next year.
- I
would like to thank all the readers of this site who have
purchased games through ComputerGamers.com in the last week. With
all the hype of internet shipping delays around this time of year
from internet stores the impression is you can't get last minute
gifts on the net. Chips
& Bits is offering 'Order
by 11:00 AM December 22nd for express shipment by Christmas Eve' .
So if your pressed for that last minute gift this may be one of
your best choices. I also wanted to make a comment about EBworld
which we get most of our orders through. I ordered B-17
Flying Fortress back
in July, and it arrived on my front porch today, the same day it
hit the store shelves. You just cannot beat that type of service
for any must have game!

Sudden
Strike invades the USA
12/10/00 6:45 PM Eastern |
- Since nobody even
cares about the election anymore I changed the poll. Please vote
on the new Playstation 2 question.
- Tribes 2
was supposed to be released around Christmas time, hopefully to
become a last minute Christmas gift. Unfortunately it looks like
it has been bumped back another month. See more release changes on
our release dates section.
- Sea
Dogs
is a very
promising game. However, I ended up returning it. It had a few
bugs, and the game play was a little too linear for me. They were shocked
at the store to see me return the game, and they were completely
sold out. The good news is a patch has already been released,
fixing a lot of bugs! So besides my opinion it looks like this is
a good game to pick up. I really did like the game, accept for a
few annoying things, and I may end up purchasing the game again.
The ship to ship battles are incredible to watch. It was the out
of the ship game play I did not care for. Click here for patch
changes, and the
patch is in our patch section along with other new patches for Wizards
and Warriors,
Giants:
Citizen Kabuto and
more.
- Two new 'kids' games
have been released in time for Christmas, The Grinch and Chicken Run.
Giants:
Citizen Kabuto,
and Fast Food Tycoon have also been released.
- One of our game
reviewers Jason,
wanted me to let you all know about a new game called X plane. He
played the demo, and liked it a lot. It also just recently
shipped, and should be available for sale. You can download it
from our Demos page.
- Those of you who
follow this site know I have anticipated the release of Sudden
Strike for a long time now. To my surprise the UK version of
the game was in my local Electronics Boutique store. Although the
game is awesome in many regards, it still lacks some features it
should have like a skirmish mode, or scenario editor. If you have
the game and want to play some multiplayer, just post on the Gamer's
Forum. Not sure if it will be available all over, since most
retailers are still listing it as being released in January in the
US.
