E3
comes to an end
05/22/01 10:00 PM Eastern |
- This year
ComputerGamers.com was not able to attend E3: Electronic
Entertainment Expo. I am very hopeful that next year we will have
a representative at the show to report on all the latest games.
There are too many new announcements for me to go over, so I
recommend you go to Blues
News for all the up to date E3 news.
- Steel
Beasts shipped today. Previously only available from their web
site, the game will now be available in stores. I bought the game,
and if your a tank fan then this game is a must.
- A cable
outage, and the email virus have kept me down for a bit.
Fortunately, my cable modem is back in action. Hopefully, you
didn't get the hamster virus from me, but if you did here
is the page to go to fix it. My apologies if I gave you the virus.
Just remember never open attachments from someone unless your
absolutely sure their sending you something. It is completely gone
now, and will not be a further problem.

Hamster
email virus
05/16/01 10:45 AM Eastern |
-
I got hit by the Hamster email
virus. That's why I haven't been doing updates. If you emailed me,
it may take me some time to get back to you. I have a pile of
email I need to switch to my new email client. The Hamster virus
attaches itself to your mail client and when you get incoming mail
it then mails the virus out to them. Just make sure you NEVER open
any attachments you get in your email. I never open any
attachments but I thought I could trust the person I got it from.
Since it automatically attaches itself on sent mail you have to be
very careful about attachments even from people you trust. The
best way I found for fixing it was just to switch to a new email
program. I am using Incredimail now which is actually nicer than
Outlook Express. You can download it from Cnet.com if you need it.
Also be warned my virus protection software did not see this
virus.
- Echelon,
and Golf Resort Tycoon both shipped a few days ago.

UO
discards its long time volunteers
05/10/01 10:50
PM Eastern |
- The expansion pack for Star Trek: Voyager - Elite Force
shipped today.
- I would like to welcome Edric
to the web site staff. Edric is a long time friend and gamer. He
is a Guardians
of Light member, and he will be taking
care of our patch section. Drop him a line if you have any patch
requests or you just want to say hi. We are always looking for
gamers to help out and volunteer for the site. Just send me an
email if you want to help with the site and get involved in the
computer game industry.
- The King of computer gaming, Sid
Meier, announced this week that he is working on a new game,
SimGolf. Gamespot has a preview
with screenshots.
- After
years of dedicated of service, Origin
has fired all of their dedicated volunteers from all of the
European and North America shards of Ultima
Online. Some Counselors and Seers that were on duty at the
time had their characters jailed and disrobed. This move comes
apparently in the wake of a lawsuit by some 'volunteers' who were
suing the company for not being paid. This entire incident defies
common sense. On one hand you have 'volunteers' suing for not
being paid. On the other you have a very rich company running
scared at the first signs of a ridiculous lawsuit. As a former
counselor and loyal Ultima Online customer I am personally
disgusted by Origin's actions in this case. They have decided to
keep all the volunteers on the Asia shards, citing the differences
in labor law practices there. From lawsuit happy players, to money
hungry game companies this entire case defies sanity. Who in the
end really gets hurt though? The hundreds of volunteers who gave
thousands of hours of their own time to help fellow players in the
game, and the players who will now have to struggle through a game
with little to no customer service. This is one of many reasons I
no longer play Ultima Online. A company like Origin just does not
deserve my money. On behalf of myself and ComputerGamers.com I
want to extend our appreciation for all of the volunteers of
Ultima Online over the years for all their dedicated service. Click
here to sign a petition on this matter.

clans, and guilds. Groups wanting to have a forum or web space
would be considered on a very high standard! Just drop us an email

new
Guardians of Light public forum here.

Over
100k hits in April
05/03/01 10:30
PM Eastern |
- I am very proud to say that we had
over 104,000 hits in the month of April our best month yet by far.
A small amount compared to the bigger game sites, but a big step
for us. Thank you all for continuing to help this site grow. At
the end of this month we will hit our one year anniversary.
-
For those
of you who liked to use the AltaVista search engine here on this
site I first want to thank you. I also am sorry to say that we
have removed it. AltaVista originally paid us 4 cents per search,
and later dropped our commission to 2 cents. They have now
completely closed their entire affiliate program. So that was our
main source of income for the site. Since this is the second
search engine to do this to us since starting the site I don't
think I will be adding a new search engine. Sorry.
For
those of you who like and want to support our site I just wanted to
remind you that we get a commission from any items purchased after
following a link from our site. A friend recently ordered some games
from EBworld, and didn't know ComputerGamers.com got a commission if
he had followed the link from our site. If my friends don't know
that, than I am sure most visitors don't know. So if you do plan to
order anything online please consider using one of our links to
order and help support this site. Amazon.com,
Buy.com,
and
EBWorld.com
are all sites where you can order just about anything online at
good prices, and we are affiliated with them and other companies.
Thank you everyone for your support.
- Any Canadian gamer's
out there? I started a discussion on our message board tonight
about how Computer Gaming World has been having fun in their
magazine making fun of Canadians. Is this just joking around, or
is unacceptable? I would love to hear some opinions from
Canadians, and everyone else. I also started a discussion there
about the latest lawsuit against game companies by families of the
Columbine shooting victims.

DailyRadar.com
closes down
05/02/01 11:00
PM Eastern |
- Sad to say that DailyRadar.com
closed down today, and all of it's employees were layed off. DailyRadar
was a very large and popular gaming web site. Despite the loss
hopefully some of it's visitors will take interest in our much
smaller site as their new computer gaming source. We at
ComputerGamers.com wish the best to all the employees, and hope
they are able to find new employment as fast as possible.
- Political
Tycoon, and Merchant
Prince 2 both shipped on Monday.
- I had mentioned
previously on the site that maybe myself or some of the staff
would be attending the E3 expo later this month. I am sorry to say
that we will not be represented this year at E3. However, I
promise that next year ComputerGamers.com will be reporting all
the greatest news from E3 next year.
- We are currently
working on three new reviews for you. Simcoach.com,
Black & White, and Tropico. Stay tuned for those reviews in
the next few weeks.
