Sony has confirmed rumors of a 40GB Playstation-3 being released in the UK. It will be available for £299. The 40Gig Playstation 3 will not be backwards compatible with any PS-2 games. The 40GB Playstation 3 is being considered an entry level console to the PS3 gaming revolution.

Sony recently dropped the price of the 60GB version of the Playstation-3 to GBP 299. The repositioned prices will come into effect on October 10, with the new 60GB “value pack” including two first-party games for the GBP 349 asking price, along with a single controller.

Quote from Sony:
“We have a brand new 40 GB machine that represents an excellent entry point into the world of high definition games and movies, and we have the fully featured 60GB machine being offered with two next-generation gaming experiences at a highly competitive price.”

Putnam (AP) — State police arrested two suspects today in the shooting of a Massachusetts man during an attempted robbery of a group of people waiting to buy new PlayStation 3 videogame consoles in Putnam earlier this month.

William J. Robertson, 20, of Woodstock, and Andrew Patnaude, 17, of Putnam were charged with attempted murder, robbery, assault and other crimes after a judge signed off on arrest warrants Monday.

Robertson and Patnaude were being held on $1 million bonds. Robertson was to be arraigned today in Danielson Superior Court, while Patnaude was to appear in the same court on Wednesday. Robertson was arrested at about 3:45 a.m. and Patnaude at about 10:30 a.m.

Multiple Operating Systems on the PS-3. By: Brian Crecente

OK, maybe I missed the meeting, but I don’t recall reading or being told that the Playstation 3’s harddrive could a partitioned harddrive with multiple operating systems.

I remember hearing about Linux, but it looks like the PS3 might be open to other operating systems as well.

I realized this while playing around with the settings and stumbling on one that said “Install Other OS.” Hopping on to the online manual, because frankly the printed one doesn’t say shit about shit, I discovered that Sony has become quite opened minded about this sort of thing.

Sony has reported to have no plans to cut the price of its upcoming PlayStation 3 video game console in the United States, despite a recent cut announced for Japan, the chief of the company’s U.S. electronic entertainment division said on Wednesday.

Kaz Hirai, president and chief executive of Sony ComputerEntertainment America, told Reuters the company would stick with its planned price tags of $499 and $599 when the new PlayStation 3 consoles hit retailers’ shelves in the United States on November 17.

The PS3 launch is just over a week away, but unfortunately, we’re now hearing announcements of a couple games being delayed/canceled, with two more titles being pushed to 2007 if retailer dates are to be believed.

• Sonic the Hedgehog - According to IGN, Sega has decided to delay Sonic’s next-gen debut until sometime this holiday season, rather than at the PS3’s November 17 launch. This was reportedly done in order to allow more time to implement downloadable content for the title.
  
• NBA Live ‘07 - Electronic Arts has announced that a PS3 version won’t be released.

Sony recently announced the official USA pricing scheme for the new Playstation 3 accessories. Included in the accessory pricing sheet is the Sixaxis controller, the PS2 to PS3 memory card adapter and the BD remote. The Sixaxis controller is priced at $49.99. The PS3 BD Remote Control is $24.99. If you want to use your Playstation-2 memory cards on the new Sony Playstation-3 you will need the memory card adapter for $14.99.
