Dark Age of Camelot  - Page 1

A new MMORPG [for those who don't know, this stands for (M)assively (M)ultiplayer (O)nline (R)oleplaying (G)ame] has just been released and is in stores now. The name of this game is Dark Age of Camelot, and from the very beginning, this game is a winner.

The basic premise of this game is a little more focused than others of its type. What I mean by this is that this game is more than kill, kill, kill, collect money, and collect items. Each server (and so far there are about fifteen, with more planned for release in the near future) consists of three 'realms' - Hibernia, Midgard, and Albion. Each realm operates independently of the others, with no communication capable across realms. They are connected, however, in that each realm can attack the others through portals into the other lands. Each realm can attack and capture opposing realm territory, for as long as they are able to hold it.

This premise, in and of itself, is very original and really does promise to make PvP(Player vs Player), traditionally a difficult game aspect to control, manageable. How does it actually work in practice though? Well, it looks like Mythic has covered their bases well. If you are killed in PvP, your enemies cannot steal your items. This is a huge plus. Who wants to go to battle wearing their best armor and weapons, only to have them taken upon an untimely death? Likewise, when you are killed by a monster you lose some experience points and some constitution points (one of your character's statistics) but you don't lose any items. If you die through PvP, you lose neither constitution or experience. The scope of the available character classes makes PvP a real thrill. Healers, assassins, rangers, blademasters, heroes, and spell casters of all sorts inhabit this world, each with their own roles to play in the fight. The real challenge and excitement of PvP is in honing your team skills to the point where everyone works well together and supports each other.

During battles across realms, NPC's (Non-Player Characters) get in on the action as well. For instance, if a crew of Hibernians invade Midgard, the NPC's of Midgard will attack the invaders, if they come within range. This adds some exciting diversity to the battles!

Players can also learn to make armor, weapons, and siege weapons, making the PvP experience complete! Imagine storming over a hill with twenty of your closest allies in an attempt to take a castle, only to see a ball of flaming pitch come hurtling your way from the defending fortress!!

Be warned though, that players must be level fifteen before they can travel across realms, so be prepared for some serious monster slaying before you can sink your teeth into PvP. Yes, this game is level based, and very much predicated on group hunting and cooperation. Hunt alone, and you will die a lot and/or go up in levels very slowly.
