The Taiwanese company A DATA has announced that come CES 2007 the Info eInk SD Card will be released. Each Info SD Card will have a tiny eInk display which shows how much storage room you have left on the memory card. The SD card’s display is bi-layer, which means it needs no power source to keep the eInk display screen running. The SD Card can continually print to the storage display screen without needing to be recharged or plugged in. The storage capacity is updated once you place your data onto the Digital Display SD Storage Device.

Computer Search Engine company Mamma.com has agreed to settle on a class action lawsuit pending in a United States Federal Court. Mamma.com stated a total of $3.15 million will paid to the plaintiffs under the settlement agreement. Their insurance carrier is said to be responsible for up to $2.5 million of the payout. The remainder will be paid out by Mamma.com inc.

Guy Faure, the Company’s President and CEO, stated: “We are gratified that the litigation is likely to be settled and on favorable terms. We can now turn all of our attention and resources to continuing to build and pursue our business model and sharpen our focus on achieving profitability and enhancing share holder value.”

Arkansans who licensed certain varieties of Microsoft Corp. software between Jan. 1, 1998, and Dec. 31, 2004, may be eligible for benefits as part of a proposed $ 37. 8 million settlement for a class-action lawsuit filed in Pulaski County Circuit Court against Microsoft.

The lawsuit accuses Microsoft of using unlawful tactics to establish a monopoly for products such as MS-DOS, Windows, Word, Excel and Office, then selling them at inflated prices.

Microsoft reportedly sold Windows 98 to Arkansas customers for $89.00 when an internal study by Microsoft in November 1997 indicated the software was profitable at $49.00, the suit states.

Microsoft denied the accusations and contends it developed and sold “high quality and innovative” software at “fair and reasonable prices.” On Sept. 7, the court approved a preliminary settlement, and it is scheduled to rule on final approval at a March 6, hearing.

If the settlement is approved, eligible consumers who submit a claim by April 23 — possibly later if extended by the court — would be eligible for vouchers valued at $ 5 to $ 12 for each software license purchased.

Multiple Operating Systems on the PS-3. By: Brian Crecente

OK, maybe I missed the meeting, but I don’t recall reading or being told that the Playstation 3’s harddrive could a partitioned harddrive with multiple operating systems.

I remember hearing about Linux, but it looks like the PS3 might be open to other operating systems as well.

I realized this while playing around with the settings and stumbling on one that said “Install Other OS.” Hopping on to the online manual, because frankly the printed one doesn’t say shit about shit, I discovered that Sony has become quite opened minded about this sort of thing.

In a campaign targeting teenagers, the Army announced on Thursday a new version of its “America’s Army” or “AA Special Forces” computer video game, incorporating digital likenesses of eight actual soldiers who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“We’re trying to put a face on soldiers so that kids can relate to them,” said Col. Casey Wardynski, director of the America’s Army project. “It’s hard to relate to a big green machine. This is a chance to get to know some of them who have done really outstanding things.”

The “America’s Army Real Heroes” program will also include a series of $10 action figures, based on the same real soldiers, in store shelves by Christmas, Wardynski said.

The program comes after the Army fell short on recruiting last year, the first time since 1999.

Wardynski said the Army spends about $2.5 million annually on the free PC game, a first-person shooter in which players go through a simulated boot camp or team up with other real players online in three-dimensional battles.
